NBC Sports is about to launch a daily national radio show that will be based on sports gambling. With this, NBC has become the latest media company to broadcast betting. If the reports coming out from the company’s headquarters is to be considered, then the gambling coverage will be broadcasted from Washington’s Studio in Bethesda. The host for the show will be Michael Jenkins and Tim Murray, who currently hosts D.C. Sports Live and SB Nation Radio respectively. Tim also hosts Navy Football.
The upcoming show is going to tap on the biggest daily sports topics, but the entire focus will be on gambling angles, line movements to point spreads. Sharps and oddsmakers will be presented as guests. It is going to be great fun for those who are betting, hosting and watching the broadcast on the TV.
The show is produced in conjunction with Westwood One, and it is going to air from 2-7 ET every weekday. The show will also broadcast on NBC Sports Radio app along with a bunch of radio affiliates of the company in the US. In 2019, ‘The Daily Line’ is set to simulcast on a few regional sports networks of NBC that includes Washington as well.
All this could have only been possible after the historic Supreme Court ruling in which it overturned an old law that restricts sports wagering to Nevada. Now, many other states have legalized sports gambling and accepted sports wagers. In the upcoming months, many more states will consider bills to legalize gambling, so an interesting move is taking place in the US right now in the field of gambling.
While the regulation framework is still gloomy, some senators have introduced a bill that is going to create federal guidelines for sports betting. There are many media companies that are vying for that spot where they are allowed to cover the burgeoning industry.
You will be surprised to know that the Vegas Sports and Information Network daily broadcasts live from a casino based in Las Vegas, whereas Fox Sports 1 airs half an hour of gambling show every afternoon.
NBC Sports Vice President, Mr. Rob Simmelkjaer has told the reporters that they have been thinking about ways on how to engage more and more fans in this space. There are lots of ways to cover sports gambling, but they have to find the perfect way that will definitely bring great results for the network.
However, the comments of Murray and Jenkins are slightly different, i.e., they want their show to appeal more to casual bettors.
Both believe that it is important to have casual conversations with the sports fans because that’s what will help build a good fan base across the country.
Jenkins has been associated with NBC Sports Washington for past 15 years now, and he has some of the most memorable moments of his life with NBC Activate Sports team. But, he will now move to the new radio show, whereas his old show, i.e., ‘D.C. Sports Live’ is going broadcast on NBC Sports Washington with Travis Thomas.
Whereas Murray, the other host with Jenkins has been working with NBC Sports Washington for past 4 months and will continue to offer his services to the company as a co-host of its Nationals Podcast by the name of ‘The Racing Presidents’.
